Tampa Fishing Charters July Report
The weather has been hot and the fishing is too. We have been catching a lot of quality fish recently in Tampa Bay. The over slot redfish have made an appearance in a big way lately. Cut pin fish have caught a lot of great reds, and hammered gold spoons have been working around high tide. Getting an early start makes a big difference in the heat of the summer because of high water temps. Snook fishing has been fantastic on top water plugs and live pilchards. It will continue to improve and be off the charts by October. Fall is the right time for big numbers on top.
Trout fishing is steady but the average fish is smaller this time of year. The usual offerings will tempt trout with top choices being gulp shrimp, trout trick and smaller pilchards. Deeper grass flats are best as the water temps climb in the shallows. Tarpon fishing is starting to taper off on the beaches but will improve as fish move into the bay. Early morning starts are key to finding rolling fish and hooking up. Night tarpon should stay strong around area bridges through the summer
Tampa Bay Fly Fishing
Fly fishing Tampa Bay is a great option right now for both tarpon and snook. You can still find tarpon along the beaches and the summer fish are starting to show in Tampa Bay proper. This fishery will remain an option until water temps dip below 75 and that will be months away. Fly fishing for snook is also great with ep bait fish flies and white deceivers. Tight cast to the mangroves with an erratic strip will put you in the fish. Release them with care during these hot summer months. Find out more about Tampa Fly Fishing.
