We have had excellent Tampa flats fishing in mid July despite having to work around a really stormy weather pattern. The redfish bite in Tampa Bay has been stellar recently and I have been targeting them daily. I’m starting to see big schools of large redfish almost daily now and the fishing will only continue to get better as we move towards fall. I had a great time guiding a local couple on their first saltwater fly fishing trip and the rewards were many. After working on some casting skills we set off in search of some redfish and Tampa Bay gave up her gold, or should I say copper.

 Tampa Fishing Charters Report

Lots of rain has led to a lot of freshwater entering Tampa Bay. The entire south shore is to be avoided right now due to this influx. I have been fishing closer to the gulf in the St. Petersburg and Clearwater areas. These areas have cleaner water and higher salinity and better flats fishing right now.

I have really been targeting redfish lately. Big schools are roaming the flats and have made for excellent Tampa fishing charters. I have been using the zman paddle tail with great success recently. On most of my fishing charters I have focused on the oyster bars on higher water. Snook fishing is also very strong with some specimens being caught around the passes. I prefer to target these fish very early in the morning before a lot of boat traffic. Tarpon are still swimming the beach just not in large numbers. The good news is with less pressure, they are much easier to feed. Bring your patience and you will be rewarded.
