Give a Tampa Fishing Charter for Christmas !

Black Friday is upon us here in sunny Florida. This is always an exciting time of year because it is the start of the busy season. Snowbirds and tourist alike will begin their annual migration to the Tampa Bay area. It will get busy quickly and soon I will be on the water everyday again. During this transitional time snook, redfish, trout, sheepshead, jacks, and more are all targets. Depending on the water temperature and weather, any of these are possible on any given day. If you are looking for the perfect gift for the fisherman in your life, I have beautiful gift certificates available for Tampa fishing charters.

The fish made another move into the canals and creeks of Tampa Bay. The last cold front was strong with a nighttime low of 40 degrees! That is cold by south Florida standards. The high yesterday was 81 and the water is warming up quickly. So begins the cycle of following our quarry back and forth from the flats to the creeks. When the water cools the most important thing you can do is slow down your presentation. When it’s cold gamefish won’t move very far to eat a bait in order to conserve energy. This means literally crawling your soft plastics along the bottom. One more important change to make is fishing when water temperatures are at their highest. Daybreak starts are no longer necessary for success and midday can be the most productive. With that said, this is Florida and it could be 90 degrees as you are reading this!

Fly fishing can be very productive in the winter months in Tampa Bay. Mackerel, jacks, bluefish, pompano and redfish are all great options. Remember to crawl the fly because fish won’t move very far or very fast to eat in the winter
